Google Pages

http://pages.google.com

Google quietly released their latest service a couple days ago. It's a free website creation/hosting service that is available to anyone with a Google Account. Each user gets a whole 100 megs of storage, too!

Here's my first impression. Great idea, but not there yet. The interface for creation is amazing. As with everything Google, it's web based, very fast and super user-friendly. There are lots of pre-fab page layouts where the user just sticks in whatever text and pictures they want, but you can also upload your own pages.

However, I was unable to find a way to upload or create folders on their server...meaning no complicated sites created in other programs.

I realize it's still in beta, but I would love to see Pages integrated with other Google services. For example, it would be awesome if I could directly put up pictures through Picasa, or pull my saved feeds from Google Reader. I'm sure these as well as other ideas are just down the road, but without some more advanced features, I'm afraid Google Pages just isn't quite ready yet.

You can check out my page, which I created just to try the service out.

And just wait until Google Wallet is released and integrated into Pages. Personalized eCommerce. Now that's exciting...

I agree that it's a cool idea, but I wouldn't really care about it. I mean who the heck would go to some lame site setup?
