ebuddy - My One Day Review

Well, I guess it just goes to show how many people read my blog if I could go four days without posting a promised review. Oh well. I write for myself, honestly.

Anyway...this is the final installment in my three part web based IM review. On Friday, I used ebuddy.com exclusively, turning off all my stand alone programs. I opened ebuddy and off we went.

Ebuddy was actually my favorite of all three programs I tested. It was the only one that didn't try to simulate the desktop environment and did its own thing. When you first go to the page, you can select one of 5 instant message systems, MSN, AIM, Yahoo, Google Talk, and MySpace Messenger. This was the only one of the three I tested that supported MySpace.

You sign in and it opens a new window with the actual system. And it looks good! Chat windows are arranged in tabs across the top and they flash to get your attention when someone sends you a message. It understands smiley faces and offers standard text editing functions, like bold, italic, underline, etc.

I honestly didn't have any problems with ebuddy. It was very fast, very smooth, and easy to use. To sign into more than one account at a time, just click the wrench at the top, then accounts.
My one qualm was that it doesn't preserve chat history. Say I'm chatting with someone and then close the tab. If I want to go back to find something I just said to that person, if I click their name to open a new chat tab, it's empty. If they could preserve the last ten lines of text, say, that would make it perfect.

Ebuddy is the only one of the three I tested that I can actually see myself using on a semi-regular basis when I'm away from my computer. I really liked it.

  1. Hey, I read your blog, so stop feeling sorry for yourself. :-D I might post more often if you took out that annoying word verification.
