For the first time ever, a school district has added blogs, and more specifically MySpace to their student code of conduct. The district (Lake County, Illinois - map) says that they'll be monitoring what students post online and that the students will be held accountable for the content of said posts.
Very interesting indeed...I honestly don't know how I feel about this. On the one hand, kids should be accountable for their online activity, but is it really the place of the school board to take action? Then again, so many kids have parents who could care less, so maybe...
This could likely effect how this issue is treated in the months to come...if it works, I guarantee other districts will follow suit.

Well to be honest, parents are a dying breed. The government is resposible for raising kids now. Teachers raise them, government tells them what they can see and buy.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, I dont think schools have any right to regulate what students can and can't say when their not at school. To me this is coming dangeroulsy close to restricting freedom of speach.
