Microsoft URGE

In a follow-up to yesterday's post about Windows Media Player 11, I thought I'd tell you all about Microsoft's new music download service, called Urge. They've partnered with MTV for this service and those who've tested it say it could be the first service to seriously challenge iTunes. It's very tightly integrated into the Media Player, meaning users with PlayForSure devices can download songs and take them with them, just like iTunes and an iPod.

Should be very interesting to see how this plays out. Stay tuned! :-)

Ryan - will be interesting to see if the iPod remains dominant. If not, we may see Urge take off. iTunes is largely popular because of the success of the iPod.

Hitwise has seen searches for iPod decrease significantly in the UK. Worth keeping an eye on!
