Yahoo! Phone Service

http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/14163343.htm

It finally happened. And Yahoo! did it first. The new version of their popular Instant Messenger allows users to call regular phone numbers from their computer for about two cents a minute. Users can also set up a phone number for people with regular phones to call to reach their computer.

This has been expected for a very long time. All the popular IM clients (Google Talk, MSN Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger) now offer the ability to talk to other computers, but nobody's done standard phone calling...until now.

As the article says, everyone expects the other services to follow suit. We may be on the verge of a communications revolution here. Who wants to wager a bet that Google finds a way to do it for free? :-)
